Proud to be regular

Caribbean Passion Nutritional Facts
Ingredients: passionfruit-mango juice blend, orange sherbet, frozen strawberries, frozen peaches, ice.

Last week I was studying on campus and I realized that I needed a snack to keep me focused until lunch time. There was a Jamba Juice nearby so I walked over and ordered the Caribbean Passion (high in fiber). The employee informed me that my smoothie came with a free boost. After looking over the selections, I naturally chose the Fiber Boost, which contains fiber "equal to three slices of whole wheat bread" and all that on top of the already fiber rich drink! And as we all know, fiber gives us the feeling of being full without having to consume 1,000 calories - an obvious choice for someone looking to buy time before lunch.

Out of the corner of my eye I seemed to notice that the two employees, one male and one female, gave me a funny look and I became a little self conscious. Now it's possible that I only thought that looked at me funny because I was already a little self conscious due to my zeal for fiber; but then I realized that even if they were tickled by my boost selection, it didn't matter to me. I am proud of my lifestyle and I think it's sad that we live in a world where society teaches us that the only people who should eat prunes and wheat toast and care about their digestive health are the elderly.

Why Fiber?

Co-contributors Andrew and Natalie started the Fiber Society on a hot and muggy night in late September. The night started out like any other Saturday night, with a 12-pack of Heineken, the DVD, Planet Earth and good company. But there was something very different about this night. We tried to pinpoint what was so different. Was it Chris' formal attire? The sensual dancing? Or the late-night house invasion? It was none of these. The difference was we had energy and a passion for life...more than we had ever experienced before.

By a strange coincidence, we we had all been adhering to a strict high fiber diet of bran muffins, prunes and black beans. And we all felt fabulous.

We all had a new found love of fiber and now had a common thread that would bond us together forever. That thread is regularity.
